Since college Helen has worked in the corporate world for large financial institutions, started her own accounting firm, and a direct marketing company.

Her non profit career started with Daughters of Bilitis in 1973. She was a founding member of the Feminist Federal Credit Union in 1975. Shortly thereafter she joined the SF Parade Organization and volunteered with them for the next 16 years managing logistics to being a Board member for several non consecutive years, Chair of the Parade Committee, Treasurer and President of the Board. She also worked on the Boards of the Lesbian and Gay Chorus, Frameline and International Ms Leather.

Since her retirement she has cut back on work. She has been on the board of the Desert Dyners, supports a fledgling organization Grassroots Junior Tennis in its goal to become a valuable asset to the Coachella Valley by providing professional tennis instruction to children 6-16 who cannot afford such lessons and she volunteers at the Mizell Senior Center in Palm Springs. In April 2008 Helen assisted in the creation of site and sound with Audrey Joseph and Jocelyn Kane and currently serves as the Secretary of the Board.
